Greyhound Bus Bathrooms

Are NOT a place to hang out any longer than necessary. I really tried to hold it but knowing I had almost 2.5 more hours until I reached my destination, I HAD to go! As I was trying to leave said bathroom I was having trouble opening the door...and experienced a moment of panic when I thought I might be stuck in cootie central!!!
Suffice it to say there are just not enough hand wipes!

Quote of the Day

One of my favorite gals at Camp Forum fell the other day and broke her wrist. During our visit with her this afternoon she said to my dad: "it might not seem like it takes a lot of energy to get your hair done, but it does!"

More From the Health Care Dept.

This is yet another: "REALLY?" Of which there are many when dealing with western medicine. My moms doctor prescribed an internal injection of Botox...yep, Botox...to numb the lower part of her esophagus. In those moments when i hear things like that I tend to have inappropriate reactions like wanting to laugh or cry. It's so flippin' surreal. And, like most other humans who believe that they are doing the 'right' thing, those docs are walking around thinking their actions are of benefit to their patients. Who is to say, really. Hmmmm, what a human conundrum.

Western Medicine

The following was written under Side Effects for one of my dad's meds:

"Levetiracetam can cause a rash that is usually not serious. However, you may not be able to tell it apart from a rare rash that could be a sign of a severe reaction."

Under Uses for the medication:
"levetiracetum is an anticonvulsant...
It is not known how it prevents seizures."

Tanning in the Parking Lot

T'waz a lovely autumn day...too cool in the shade but perfectly lovely in the sun so we found a patch of ☀ in the parking lot and sat quietly whilst getting our daily quota of vit D. When my mom felt fresh  air for the first time in days she took a huge deep breath and settled into herself. Should be part of everyone's health care recovery plan to breathe fresh air...

Post Death Humor

I was visiting with one of my parents friends In her apartment this morning. She showed me a huge needlepoint piece she'd made and framed. It really was amazing. She told me that unbeknownst to her children, she'd attached a note to the back of the piece that read: "don't you DARE sell this!!!"
I think it's a hilarious thing to do and will hopefully give her girls a good laugh after their mom has passed.

Welcome Home

As we were rolling my 79 year old mom off the elevator at Camp Forum for the first time since her surgery, a handsome fellar friend of hers leaned down and said: "We'd heard you had a miscarriage!"
OMG, we all three busted up.

Nurses Quote

My moms weekend nurse, a beauty-full and kind Indian woman said to mom as she peeled out on one of her walks tonight: "remember, I don't like to pick my patients up off the floor!!!"

Blessings

I just got off the phone with one of my moms friends here at Camp Forum.
I loved this woman the instant i met her...feels like I've known her forever. She said: "you need me to hug you so you can have a good cry."
Which immediately made me cry...cuz it's true. Today I feel the heart weariness and tenderness as this new reality sets in further. I could cry a river.......

Morphine for 500!

My mom has a morphine drip that she controls. It's a llittle stick with a button on the end. She LOVES her morphine! Today, when she was self medicating my sister said it looked like she was a contestant on jeapordy...hence, morphine for 500!

The big drugs

My mom, a self-confessed control freak, said yesterday after I told her that my sister and I were coming into town because she was in the hospital: "I leave it in your capable hands."
I said to her "wow, mom, you ARE drugged!"
We both had a good laugh.

Bird messenger?

I was driving home the other evening at dusk when a bird flew from behind the driver side and landed in front of the car. It just sat on the road as I approached it at a very, very, very slow crawl. Then, when I got close enough it flew forward another 50 feet or so and sat in the road again. And, once again i very very slowly approached the bird. The third time it happened I stopped my car and I got out. I walked towards the bird and once I got within say 5 feet I stopped... It was hard to see even though the bird was illuminated in my headlights. I couldn't make out what kind of bird it was although I had a wondering if it was some sort of small owl. So I just stood there for a bit and then I took a step to get a little bit closer but as I did the bird flew away.
There is no doubt in my mind that the birds actions were intentional. Unfortunately, I am just a little too dense to understand the communication.

It might only get worse!

It's certainly a different phase in life when one has to wear reading glasses to be able to read most everything Except for the biggest print on the eye chart!
It requires having a pair of reading glasses with one or near one at all times.
There have been many an occasion where I could not find my reading glasses… Only for me to realize they were already on my head. But now, I've digressed even further. Yesterday, I was actually already wearing my reading glasses and put a second pair on top of  them!!! There was a millisecond after I put the second pair on that I thought it seemed awfully bulky and clunky on my face and i couldnt really see so well...And then realized it was the second pair!
Can't wait to see what the next digression brings!!!

There's Always a Gift of Sorts!

I called to talk with my dad tonight as he is in the hospital. He was catching me up on his condition and was hopeful he might be able to sleep at least some of the night. I said that, at a minimum, he would be warmer than if here were at home where my mom likes sub artic temperatures!!! We laughed and then he told me how at home he sometimes takes himself outside just to warm up. Not too sure how that will work out in the winter!

LOVE the bag!!!
